Mark & Chelsie Eliminated 7/31
This week's elimination certainly seems to be up in the air on So You Think You Can Dance. The most recent episode was arguably one of the strongest of all time, with each pair receiving high praise from the judges. The dancers who make it through will go on to the finale and one of them will be crowned the winner next week. The pressure is on and any one of the final 6 could go home!
The show starts with another group dance by our remaining 6 contestants, choreographed by Emmy nominated Mandy Moore and performed to Bette Midler's "The Rose". The song was beautiful, and the routine was beautifully danced by the top 6. A big surprise is also revealed by Adam Shankman! He sweetens the winner’s pot by adding a featured dancer role in his latest movie production. I think this is a great prize to win in addition to the money. It will give that dancer a lot of great exposure and possibly turn them on to a career on the big screen. Very Nice!
Next we hear from our panel of judges - Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy, and Adam Shankman with their final thoughts for the contestants before the eliminations commence. Nigel wants the dancers to prepare themselves for rejection and warns them not to let it consume them. Each and every one of them polled over 1 million votes this week and he hopes each of them is inspired by that and that it will help them get through this difficult elimination. Mary comments the group performance was beautiful, and they’ve all grown so much and are adding layers to their dance lives. She feels they all deserve to win. Adam feels they are such beautiful, kind, sweet people. He wants them to remember every moment of this experience. They have shown the best of themselves on this program.
Our Final Four
Now we get onto the dancer's solos. Courtney's was great and her song was all about saying goodbye. More and more she’s a pleasure to watch. She’s got great technique and gives good emotion during her piece. Mark is next and of course he brings his funky, fresh uniqueness to his routine. He again uses part of his outfit as a prop - this times his suspenders - very original! Katee as always has nice lines and did a great job - probably the best I've seen from her all season. Josh's solo is really cool! His routine is danced to some classic funk, starting off with the music slowed down and then speeding up as the song progresses. He did some popping and locking and then busts into the funk! Chelsie's solo is - what else can I say - this girl oozes sassiness and confidence in all she does and I love it! She had great footwork to a country song by Travis Trite and it was almost a cross between something like line dancing and Lord of the Dance? But I mean that in a very complimentary way. Twitch was the last solo of the night, dancing his funky cool routine to Bobby Cherri’s "Don't Worry Be Happy". Twitch even looked a bit like Cherri in his dress and style. He's another one that is so original in whatever he does.
Now it's time for the final results of the week. Cat starts with the girls and announces the first one safe and going onto the finale is Kate. I'm not surprised, but am disappointed. I'm a huge fan of both Chelsea and Courtney and would've liked to see them both go on. The first guy to be declared safe is Joshua! This decision I am happy about. Josh is such a talented dancer and so adorable! This week was the first time he was on TV without his braces on and he was literally all smiles showing off his pearly whites! Back to the girls again - and Courtney too is safe. So this means Chelsea is going home which is not at all what I hoped to see. She tearfully expresses her gratitude to everyone and it's quite sad to see her so upset. I honestly feel she deserved to stay because of her talent - her footwork, her lines, and her overall presence in every performance was a pure gift to watch. So now I'm rooting for Courtney all the way! Our last guy to make into the finale is Twitch, which means Mark is out. This too is a bit disappointing as I have always loved Mark's quirky funkiness. That certainly doesn't discount Twitch though as he is a remarkable talent as well. But I think I'll be voting for Joshua to win. I feel both he and Courtney have shown the most improvement overall during the entire competition and truly deserve to win the whole thing!
What do you think? Did America get this one right and are you happy with the Top Four dancers remaining? I'm sad to see two phenomenal dancers leave this week, but I have a feeling the two part finale next week will be even more exciting! Good luck to Chelsea and Mark and I hope to see them do wonderful things with their dancing careers! Come back next week for more reviews and updates! You won't want to miss the show's finale or results show.
