Kherington Payne Voted off 7/17/08
This week marks a big shift on So You Think You Can Dance. For the first time all season, the fates of the dancers are solely based on the votes of the home audience. The judges no longer have a say about who stays or who goes. There were no guest performances on this week’s results show. Instead we were treated to a Bollywood routine danced by all 10 finalists.
Then the top five girls danced a contemporary routine choreographed by Mia Michaels, and the top five guys danced a Broadway routine choreographed by none other than executive producer Nigel Lythgoe himself. Most importantly, we also found out which two guys and which two girls got the fewest number of votes this week thanks to America. Although all their fates were sealed when the final vote was counted last night, all four of these dancers got another chance to dance one more solo.
Gev Manoukian Voted off 7/17/08
Our two bottom girls were Kherington Payne and Comfort Fedoke. Comfort must be having a hard time coming up with fresh moves for all the solos she's been having to dance lately. Fortunately for her, America wanted to keep her around, so we'll be seeing her for at least one more week. Yes, it was Kherington who ended up getting the boot, a results show that surprised everyone from the judges to the audience to her fellow dancers. Kherington took it all in stride, saying she had prepared herself just in case it ended up being her who had to go home. She lit up the stage for much of the competition but the judges started to worry, in recent weeks, that she had lost her fire.
The two guys with the least number of votes were Mark Kanemura and Gev Manoukian. I have to be honest in saying I didn’t want any of the top five male dancers to leave the show because I enjoy watching all of them dance. However, I'm so glad Mark will be coming back next week. He truly brings something unique to the table, and I can't wait to see what he'll reveal to us next week. And who could forget Gev's audition this year for So You Think You Can Dance? As if his break dancing skills weren't impressive enough, he showed off on a pair of ice skates! From that day on, Gev became a sentimental favorite, catapulting him in this season's Top 10. He was paired with contemporary dancer Courtney Galiano for much of the competition. The two worked beautifully together and had great chemistry. Nigel even teased Gev, saying when he got a new partner he wasn't as focused because he was still thinking of Courtney. It's so amazing how much he has accomplished during this time on the show, and it was so cute how he had such a huge crush on his former partner Courtney. We'll miss you, Gev!
