SYTYCD Results Show – Our Top 12 Revealed

Kourtni L & Matt - Latest Eliminations

It’s here again – elimination time for one guy, and one girl. We start off the results show with the group of remaining contestants dancing together in a Broadway piece choreographed by Tyce Diorio. Next, we get down to business by announcing our bottom 3 couples: Kourtni & Matt, Comfort & Thayne, and Courtney & Gev. Each has to perform a solo dance in their respective genres for the judges, audience, and home viewers each time they are voted into the bottom. So who is going home this week?

Nigel tells us how tough it was to come to a decision. He really cares about all of these contestants more than any other season so far, and he’ll be very glad when the public takes over and has sole responsibility for sending someone home. That being said, our guy and girl eliminated this week are Kourtni and Matt, and we’re now down to a dozen dynamite dancers. But the big question is, who do you think will emerge as this season's champ?

Which other of our remaining contestants will meet the same fate - staying at the top of the pack all season long until the moment that matters the most? Remaining safe from elimination this season depends on several key factors and technique might be the least important. Just ask Matt Dorame, one of the contestants eliminated this week. An amazing technical dancer, he had every other factor working against him and was sent home before making the Top 10; the group that will go out on the national dance tour.

Katee and Joshua Performing the Samba

Drawing a good partner in the first 5 rounds is probably the number one factor for success. The two who have benefited the most from this are Kherington Payne and Jessica King. Kherington is paired with Twitch Boss, who made it all the way to the final Vegas round last season. Jessica is paired with Will Wingfield, literally an unstoppable force this season. He must be tired from carrying his team to the Top 10. If he can show a little more personality, this guy could win the whole thing.

Drawing the right style from the hat and, more importantly, the right choreographer is also immensely important to getting far on So You Think You Can Dance. For example, you just can't go wrong with any of Mia Michaels choreography numbers. Whether the meaning of the song is obvious or up for interpretation, whether we understand everything about it or not, you have to respect what she puts up on the stage. Right behind her is Tabitha and Napoleon D'Umo, new to the show this season. They've given us two memorable routines already this season that could easily make the tour - Josh and Katee's military piece and Chelsie and Mark's work vs. relationship piece.

Finally, there's the likeability factor. The video clips shown before each of the couple’s performances aren't just there as filler material, they're presented so America gets to know the contestants and become more intrigued with them by seeing their actual personalities. The right balance of charm, humor, passion, and sensitivity should keep viewers dialing in and voting week after week. My picks of those dance teams who have a great combination of everything this season are Mark and Chelsie, Josh and Katee, Will and Jessica, Twitch and Kherington, Courtney and Gev.
