The Ladder

In this episode, Ryan and the PRS gang go to Massachusetts where a family is haunted from a spirit for over 40 years. After a little background checking, Ryan discovers why the spirit won't leave...

Ryan and the gang went to Massachusetts...

In the town of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, the PRS gathered for a meeting early one morning to discuss the particulars of a case.

“We have a client named Sandy who has grown up in this house since she was ten years old”, Ryan said to everyone. “She no longer lives in the house. Her parents still own it but they hardly spend anytime there so Sandy takes cares of it while her parents are gone.” Ryan also told everyone that even though the parents are getting ready to sell the house, Sandy is emotionally connected to something there.

“They moved in 1965”, said Sergey. “The minute that she got there at age ten, her and her sisters said that they had experienced hearing sounds… doors flew open.” He also informed the group that their client believes that the house is haunted by a spirit named “Edward”.

The gang traveled to the client’s house and Sandy was so happy that she gave the group members a hug as they entered her home.

During the house tour, Sandy took the group down to the basement of her home. “This is the place”, she said, “where my brother Ricky and my sister Lisa they heard this hissing noise coming from here. So we all got down here and checked. The TV was right there. It was not plugged in but it was on.”

She then took the gang to her childhood bedroom and explained how the door used to rattle and then fly open when they were kids. Sandy showed them her parents’ bedroom and told them what happened there. “This is where I saw the entity solid”, she said. “He was walking around my mothers room dressed like Abraham Lincoln. The dark suit was so prevalent.”

Ryan did a follow up interview with the homeowner and Sandy’s father, Nal. “I was sitting down near the fireplace. I just happened to look up at the fireplace and there was this tall man. He had the old clothes: dark suit and a top hat.”

“I don’t think that I have been in this house alone more than ten times in my whole entire life”, said Sandy’s sister Lisa to Ryan. She described an incident on Christmas when she slept at the house and the spirit woke her up. “Someone reached over into my ear and said ‘We know your name”. When he whispered it was not in a nice voice. I don’t think you try to scare people when you are not in someway evil...”

“The thing that I remember the most”, said Sandy’s other sister Cindy to Eilfie. “was the closet door in the bedroom. In the middle of the night it came out at me, smacked me in the face and said ‘%&#$ you’ It was in a man’s voice and it sounded angry”.

When Ryan had spoke with Sandy again, he mentioned that her family members saw the spirit is a less favorable light than she did. “I have a bond that they don’t have”, she said.

Edward was reported to wear
a suit similar to this...

“Why did you ask us to come here?” he asked her. “My parents are getting older”, she said, “and if something happens and the house changes hands, I feel like my time is running out to help him.”

Ryan asked her why see called him Edward. “Because I had a dream about it”, she said.

Heather conducted an interview with Debbie, Sandy’s other sister. “There was an incident where my father was going to go up on the roof to fix something”, she said. “Sandy had a dream saying ‘Don’t let your father go up on the roof’”.

Sandy told Ryan the same dream about Edward warning her about her dad going on the roof during her interview.

Ryan decided to have some more assistance with this case. He invited psychics Michael Parry to the home to see what information he could intuitively pick up. Upon arrival, he reassured that Ryan told him nothing about the case and then he went inside the house.

Parry immediately walked into Sandy’s childhood bedroom on the second floor of the house. “I’m hearing bangs and knockings”, he said to Ryan. “I definitely think there is a man here.”

After Parry was done looking around, he sat Sandy down with Ryan nearby and told her what he had picked up. He said that he heard a man telling him, “I live here”. “He may not be connected to your family”, he said to her. “He might be someone from before”. He made a reference to 1895 and a surname that began with the letter “P”. “He fell off the roof”, said Parry.

“Oh my god!” she exclaimed suddenly realizing that the spirit warning her about her dad in her dream going on the roof had saved his life.

On the second day of the investigation, Ryan determined that the psychic reading was consistent with Sandy’s experience. Since Sandy didn’t do it herself, Eilfie went to research the property. She found out that a previous owner did own the house during the 1880’s. His last name was Pond and his first name was Edward.

When she returned, Eilfie explained the manner in which Mr. Pond died. “He was up on the ladder putting shingles up”, she told Ryan, “and the ladder slipped. It went down, he went down to the ground and hit the hammer.” She also told him that some people found him and took him inside the house and while they tried to get an ambulance, he died inside the house.

Ryan went back to Sandy and told her that they have the death certificate of the previous owner. “His name was Edward Pond”, he told her. He told her that he did die by falling off the roof. Sandy then told him that when she went to clean the attic, she found a weird box that she had never seen before. On it was a little shred of a comic strip. “Half of it you could see half of it you couldn’t”, she said. “And it said, ‘I fall down, go boom’”.
Sandy gave him the comic strip to look at and indeed, the strip said “I fall down, go boom”.

Edward is off to a better place...

After a professional sketch artist came to the home and did a portrait of what Edward may have looked like, Ryan was ready to do some dead time. But thanks to the surveillance cameras all over the house, Ryan noticed that Sandy spent a lot of time with the portrait the sketch artist did.

Heather had an interview with Sandy’s brother Ricky. “I was very worried this morning”, he said. “She was fixing the sketch. She woke up telling me that ….someone else was telling her to change the picture.”

“What is your biggest fear?” Ryan asked Sandy. “That he would leave”, she replied.

Ryan was surprised. “Wouldn’t that be a good thing?”

“It’s like a bittersweet thing. I can’t explain it”, she said.

It was the third day of the investigation and now Ryan was ready to do some dead time and he had Sandy participate in it. They were in her old bedroom while Heather was by herself in the basement. In the Tech HQ in the dining room, Sergey was ready with the equipment.

Dead time came with the bumps and noises that Ryan and the PRS gang have grown accustomed to but what surprised Ryan was Sandy going to a nearby closet where she felt that the spirit was hiding. “Why are communicating with Edward?” he asked.

“I don’t know”, she said. “It feels like he’s part of the family.”

After noticing Sandy’s attachment to Edward, he knows that the spirit won’t leave unless she lets him go. Sandy and her family are Catholic so Ryan had Roman Catholic Priest Bob Bailey come out to speak to her.

“I think the important thing is”, said Father Bailey to Sandy. “When someone that we have become attached to we want to have that person where they should be and that is to be with God.”

The priest did a house blessing with Ryan holding a tearful Sandy in his arms. At the final client meeting he said to her, “When it comes to Edward, you will see him again someday. That should be an interesting reunion.”

Sandy and Ryan even found Edward’s grave in a local cemetery which had been aged by over one hundred years. “Do you feel anything right now?” he asked her.

“I feel better”, she replied as she looked at the tombstone.
