In the season opener of Paranormal State, Ryan and the PRS gang visit a case where a couple experienced severe things that went bump in the night. Experienced medium Chip Coffey joined the team as they found out about the power of bad juju...
In the beginning of last night's episode. Ryan did a case briefing with the members of the paranormal research society. The case in question involved henry and Sandy, a married couple.
“The phenomena started about two and a half years ago”, said Ryan. “Objects had disappeared. Religious artifacts are thrown and hidden. Lights and plumbing go on and off unexpectedly…” Ryan told the crew that the couple thought originally that they were the victims of a robbery. Sergey concurred. “They are not taking money or jewelry,” he said. Ryan informed them that the police said that they couldn’t do anything about it and even suggested that it was paranormal. “Unfortunately”, said Ryan. “After two house blessings, the paranormal activity has continued. In fact, it has worsened.”
The PRS crew traveled to Washington, Pennsylvania to the client’s home. It was a cloudy overcast day when they pulled up to the home. Henry and Sandy waited for them on their front porch and greeted everyone warmly.
During the house tour, Sandy informed Ryan that it all began when a neighbor called the couple while they were away form the house to let them know that all of their television sets were on. “All the TVs, radios, lights ceiling fans and the dryer were on”, she told him. She also showed him some religious objects in her home that were thrown on the floor.
Upstairs in their bedroom, Sandy and Henry recounted the time on a Good Friday when Henry, though asleep was attacked while Sandy witnessed the encounter. “I thought that I would sleep in a little bit it was seven in the morning”, Henry told Ryan. :”I was actually sleeping but a shoe had it me on the side of the head.”
The couple went on to describing more bizarre activity in their home: a hunched black figure, dead rats and frozen cats near their vehicles and even someone hacking into their bank account.
“They had used the routing numbers and emptied our account”, said Sandy. “And they didn’t catch who did that?” “No”, the couple replied.
“Sounds like negative stuff keeps happening” said Ryan.
“Every Friday and Saturday”, said Henry. “Everyone would show up at our house. We’d have bonfires out back”
“Sounds like you don’t do that anymore”, said Ryan. The couple said that they didn’t because of the paranormal activity.
Ryan then diagnosed the issue as not being poltergeist but rather possibly a curse. “From the very beginning”, said Sandy. “I told Henry that it was good versus evil.”
During the tech set up of the house, Ryan introduced a guest technician who would help out named Chad Calek. “He is a very well known paranormal investigator”, Ryan told the crew.
During dead time, which is 3am, the crew was busy at work to communicate with whatever was haunting the home. Two teams were set up. Team two that consisted of Chad, Heather, Sergey and Eilfie were in the woods next to the house. Team one which consisted of Katrina and Ryan were in the dining room of the home. “Is there anyone who has any ill will towards this family?” asked Katrina. “You have a chance now to communicate with us”, said Ryan. “Tell us why you are here”.
While outside, Sergey asked: “Did you here that whistling sound?” Chad affirmed that it was indeed whistling. “I heard it too”, said Heather.
Things were not any better inside with team one. “I just heard a voice”, Ryan said to Katrina chuckling.
Josh, who was in the tech headquarters, was in the house surveying everything the video cameras Sergey installed throughout the house. He saw something on the screen. He asked team two if they were flashing lights near the kitchen. “Negative we are pretty far away from the house”, replied Sergey on his walkie-talkie. “What the hell?” exclaimed Josh. His surveillance cameras captured some lights that were flying past in the kitchen area. They were indeed bearing witness to a spirit of some sort.
After Josh had showed the light phenomena to both Ryan and Katrina, Ryan then decided that it would be a good idea to bring in some more expertise. Psychic and medium, Chip Coffey arrived on the second day to see what he could pick up telepathically.
”I haven’t told you anything about this case”, said Ryan. “I know nothing”, the experienced psychic medium replied upon entering the house. “So I will just follow your lead”, said Ryan as Coffey walked through the house. Coffey soon picked up some audible information like chanting. “What kind of chanting?” Ryan asked. :”Ritualistic”, Coffey replied. “It does not sound good”. As they got closer to the lower level of the house Coffey began to feel uncomfortable. “I don’t like this place”, said Coffey as they went down into the basement. “Can we come back down here after dark?”
At the end of the tour of the home, Coffey recapped on the information he picked up psychically from the home. “New Orleans, voodoo, Santeria”, said Coffey reading from his notes. “Heat… fire … who was burned. Was there something or someone who was burned?”
During the second client interview, Ryan asked the couple if there were Ouija boards or whatnot that was in the house. Henry said that they had received a voodoo doll from a friend who visited New Orleans. “We didn’t believe in the stuff”, said Henry to Ryan. “Didn’t know anything about it.” They told it to a priest that came to their home to bless it and he suggested that they get it out of their home. Not only did they get rid of the doll, Henry burned it. “I don’t know if that was the right way to do it”, he admitted.
Henry took Ryan outside to where he burned the doll. He described it as having hair on it and some symbols etched on it: a heart with a slash on it as well as a money bag with a slash through it.” Henry actually pointed out some remains of the doll. Ryan found the head of it and picked it up.
After Sergey did a phone interview with occult expert Michelle Belanger, crew deduced that the doll was attracting negative energy to the family that lived in the home, even though it wasn’t created directly against them. When Henry burned the doll, he inadvertently released some more of the dolls maliciousness. In other words, it was a legit voodoo doll.
:In an effort to communicate with the spirit, two teams were set up. This time, one team was at the site of the woodpile outside where the voodoo doll was while the second team positioned itself inside the house. Coffey joined the team inside the house. “What are you feeling Chip?” asked Ryan. “It’s interested”, he replied. After a few moments the teams from both the outside and indoors deduced that most of the activity was occurring in the basement where Chad was positioned. Ryan and Coffey soon joined Chad. The spirit then was moving stuff around, making low growling noises and unnerving all three men. “There’s something down here Bro,” said Chad to Ryan.
On the third day of the investigation, Ryan and Coffey consulted with Eilfie who is the occult specialist and initiated Wicca practicioner of the group. “What do you think we should do with it?” he asked her in reference of the doll. “I can wrap it safely in some cloth and put some salt with it just to keep it bound.”
Afterward, Eilfie conducted a binding ceremony for the voodoo doll. “If I at least try to show it some respect,” she said. “Hopefully it will nullify whatever is going on”. After some more prayers to bless the home and to drive away the spirit, Ryan conducted his last interview with the family.
“The things I had experienced in your home during dead time”, said Ryan to the couple. “I haven’t experienced stuff like that in quite some time.” He told them that they were taking the voodoo doll with them and it would be off their property as soon as they pulled away from their driveway. Coffey, who was at attendance in the meeting agreed that things would change for the better for them.
“Please go back to having the parties and the bonfires”, said Ryan. “Do not stop that. Just keep holding on.”
“You don’t have to worry about that”, said Sandy holding her husband’s hand. “Good wins over evil”.
As the show ended, there was footage of Sandy and Henry holding their beloved parties in the company of family and friends. They did so when the paranormal activity had finally ceased.
