The Mole Outwits ClayMonday, July 21 2008 |
After playing a memory game that has players scrambling around the city of Mendoza, the five remaining players get a chance to reunite with loved ones. And another low-key player gets executed this week on The Mole.

Mark tells the camera he was absolutely certain Alex wasn’t the mole and he’s gone, so finally “something I was thinking is correct.”
Nicole says that even though her first couple suspicions were wrong, she is still in the game long enough to be able to tell, hopefully, who the mole is and beat a couple of the guys in the process. “I think that would be the sweetest victory of all,” she says.
There is currently $251,000 in the pot and Jon asks the players to split into two teams, a “smart” team and a “dumb” team.
Craig immediately calls out that he is on the “dumb” team. Paul, Clay and Mark call the “smart” team and meanwhile Nicole tells the camera that she chose the “dumb” team so she could keep an eye on Craig.
This mission, “Go Figure,” has the players deciphering clues and answering questions using different locations all over the city of Mendoza. Each answer is a number, the number have to be memorized and brought back to the start location to be entered into a computer. All the players have to return in time and the numbers have to be correct for them to win the money.

The “dumb” team gets five numbers to remember and the “smart” team gets three.
Nicole and Craig seem to be getting along great, and then Craig trips Nicole up and she starts to think that Craig might be trying to sabotage. They seem to be getting all their answers easily, however, and head for their last clue stop. The “smart” team gets lost; they are eight blocks from their final destination.
Nicole and Craig develop a song to remember their numbers. They have to count a bunch of little tiles and Craig says she is counting the tiles wrong. Is she trying to sabotage the mission? Nicole tells the camera, that she is a very tedious surgeon but doesn’t have to count each individual blood vessel. Craig tells the camera he can’t trust her.
Back to the “smart” team, Paul gets them lost. Mark says he finds this suspicious. You hear Mark say, “Come on green light, let’s go.” Paul, out of breath, replies, “Green light my ass, come on slow down, how about that?”
Craig and Nicole arrive back to enter their numbers and the “smart” team isn’t there yet. They finally arrive with 7 minutes left and they begin entering their numbers and one of the numbers is wrong.

Since it’s a “dumb” team number, one of them has to go recalculate and re-enter the answer. The number initially entered was 228, Nicole runs out and begins recounting, she arrives back with one minute to spare and says it is 227.
Meanwhile, Clay had begun analyzing the existing numbers and says he is certain the wrong number should be 233. Nicole insists she counted every thing she needed to and it was 227, the group majority decides to go with Clay’s number and it is correct. With cheers and high-fives all the way around and the player’s win another $30,000 for the jackpot. “It’s evident that I am a math genius,” Clay says.
Back at the hotel, Mark talks of scenarios of who could be the mole. Him and Clay discuss the possibility that Nicole or Craig might be the mole. Clay tells the camera that he can’t trust Mark. Clay then later meets with Nicole and discusses the possibility that Mark could be the mole. Nicole tells the camera that because her and Clay are both black she should be able to trust her “brother.”
The players leave Mendoza and arrive in Buenos Aires. At the hotel Paul, Mark and Clay talk about how much they miss their wives and kids and how they are missing birthdays, proms and soccer games.
At the next mission, Jon tells the players they have a chance to add $50,000 to the pot but there is a lot more at stake than just money. He then asks the players to choose who they trust the most, Mark picks Clay, Paul picks Mark, Craig picks Clay, Clay picks Nicole and Nicole chooses Mark, although she tells the camera she really trusts Clay the most but doesn’t want to put too much on him for this mission.
Jon tells the players that as they speak, their significant others (and Paul’s daughter) were on their way to the train station. Everyone is kind of in disbelief and Clay says, “yeah, right.”
The mission “Ticket to Ride” has each player answering 30 questions asked of them by their “trusted player” about their significant other. After answering, the trusted player then has to answer five of the 30 questions and get at least three of them correct. If their chosen trusted player gets at least three correct, the train doors will open and they get to see their loved ones. If not, the doors won’t open. Each successful reunion will add $10,000 to the pot.
Craig and Clay go first. Craig answers 30 questions about his girlfriend Brendi. Craig isn’t going fast enough for Clay’s liking. Clay then answers five questions. We wait to see if at least three of them are correct.

After what seems like several seconds, the doors open and Craig and Brendi hug. Next up, Clay and his trusted partner Nicole. Clay says Nicole is going too fast. But it works out and Clay’s wife, Kim, walks out. Clay tells the camera he cannot believe his wife is there.
Next are Nicole and Mark, Nicole says mark is going too slow. Mark answers the questions correctly and Nicole is reunited with her mother.
Mark and Clay go next. His pregnant wife pulls up and she begins crying, “Open the door.” Mark says, “It’s not up to me.” She cannot wait for him to come back home, she tells the camera.
Last is Paul and his trusted partner Mark, Paul skips the first three questions, he doesn’t seem to know much about his wife, even how many siblings she has or what her dream job would be. The train pulls up with his wife and daughter.
As we wait, we hear Paul tell the camera he is getting into that train no matter what. “If I have to throw Jon into the window and break the window to get my family this is what I’m gonna have to do.”
The doors open and they hug. Paul tells the camera this reminds him of why he is doing this; he says he is there for them. He hugs Mark and thanks him.
Jon says $50,000 is added to the pot, bringing the total to $331,000.
Mark tells the camera the mole has to have a heart and that it was unthinkable anyone could sabotage that mission.
Nicole tells her mother that she is burnt out and is going to throw the quiz so she could go home.
The next day, they players have dinner with their family. The camera shows the players and their families discussing whether or not they are the mole. Mark doesn’t answer his wife’s question. Is he the Mole? Brendi predicts that either Craig will be the winner or he is the mole, and adds, she is never wrong. “You’re wrong a lot,” Craig laughs.
At the execution, Paul is first, and he gets a green screen. He kisses his wife and they breathe a sigh of relief. Nicole is next, she gets a green screen and whispers to her mother, “sorry.”
Clay is next and unfortunately gets the red screen.
Nicole’s mom looks at her and says, “You couldn’t do it, could you?” She replies, “As soon as I sat down to take the quiz, I knew I couldn’t do it.” Her mother calls her “Omarosa.” Nicole says, “Leave me alone, ma.”
Paul says he and Clay had problems but they had resolved them.
Clay leaves with his wife, saying some of the guys wear their heart on their sleeve and just need to “carpe diem” – seize the day.
