Could The Mole be executed?
Poor ratings for this season’s summer reality show The Mole might just lead to its own execution from the ABC Network. Its producers have taken to the Internet in hopes of spreading a viral message to boost ratings and save The Mole.

The pathetic ratings have producers Scott Stone and Clay Newbill looking to viewers for help in the marketing department. The pair have created a Web site,SaveTheMole.com, that invites fans to pass along their message of desperation and urgency.

“While our core fans have been turning out in droves, the show has been underperforming in the key 18-49 demo,” the Web site letter said. “The good news is we still have a chance to show ABC how much people love this show by getting our ratings up for the last five episodes.”

Scantily-clad models couldn't even draw in more viewers.
Fans are being asked to tell 10 friends about the show and have them tell 10 friends and so on, and so on. Other suggestions the producers have for fans include organizing “Mole screening parties every week to get people hooked,” and they can also join a Mole fan club on Facebook and invite their friends.

Stone and Newbill are maximizing the use of today’s social media by offering a YouTube challenge. Stone himself has a message on the Web site challenging the fans to a YouTube-off, hoping one lucky fan might reach 500,000 views on YouTube with a creatively designed video. That someone wins the chance to be whisked away to L.A. to be wined and dined, he said.

Will their efforts be enough to keep The Mole intact for next season? We’ll find out.

A RealityBug.com spy did spot black and yellow handmade signs posted on a Santa Monica freeway overpass in Los Angeles County stating Save - The - Mole. Maybe their campaign really is working.

Stay tuned to RealityBug.com and we’ll keep checking those ratings.
