The Mole - News Room

The Mole is a reality television game show which was originally created in 1999 by Woestijnvis and broadcast on BNN in the Netherlands. It was conceived by Michiel Devlieger, Bart de Pauw, Tom Lenaerts and others, and the format was later licensed in 40 countries.

Mole Contestant Opens Up to Gay Magazine

Bobby comes clean about The Mole experience.

Bobby O’Donnell, the third player to get “executed” on The Mole is sharing his reality TV experience with the gay community. Bobby openly admitted his homosexuality to producers at ABC who then added it to his contestant biography for its summer reality show -- although the issue was never addressed on the show.

Bobby dished about the other contestants and Jon in an interview with The Advocate: GenQ. He told reporter Louis Virtel that he hoped to be a good role model; to represent the gay community but didn’t last long enough in the game to make a difference.

In regards to his physical weakness, he said he was never pretending, that he was seriously injured – he even took medicine for it and had to get a rubdown by the medics.

“It just looks so pathetic because all the missions where I didn’t do so well, people saw that as me sabotaging, but it was really me trying my hardest,” he told The Advocate. “I really was hurt, and I really was seriously injured. It wasn’t just me complaining about sore muscles the day before. I mean, I was legitimately injured.”

O’Donnell said some of the comments people have been making on the Internet have been hurtful but he has been able to look the other way for the most part. One of the saddest things he read in a forum said, “I think Bobby’s part of the Make A Wish Foundation, and his last dying wish is to be on The Mole.”

Speaking of hurtful, he mentions how Paul, the boisterous insult-slinging married New Yorker, is his least favorite player but that he doesn’t harbor any hatred for him. “I mean Paul definitely did rub me the wrong way, but it’s funny that they don’t show the day we were first all there,” he told The Advocate. “I thought he was going to be one of my best friends there.” Bobby said Paul told him that he visits gay clubs in New York all the time.

Now, off the show with a lease up on his place and no permanent job, he said he’s moved back home to get himself together and do some “guest-bartending.”
