Hannah returned to LA Ink and everyone was happy. Kat was angry at Pixie for taking a hiatus without permission. Several clients came in to get tribute tatoos in honor of their grandparents.
In episode 2, Season 2, Kat Von D saw a life coach and talked about her anger that Pixie went out of town without telling Kat. The life coach asked Kat, “What would you do if you weren’t friends with Pixie?” Kat replied, “I’d fire her.” The life coach told Kat that it’s imperative that she learns to wear the boss’ hat. Kat told her coach that it’s hard to reprimand Pixie cause she cries a lot, and it pulls at Kat’s heart strings. Kat then stated that there’s no crying in tattooing.
Brandon, a cocky, hair stylist, who labeled himself as hot, busy and expensive, came in to meet with Corey Miller. Brandon brought in his personal beauty product line and showed Corey the decorative B on his bottles that he wants tattooed on his neck. He wanted to look tough, and Corey said that any time you put a tattoo on the neck it’s gangster like. They talked about the tattoo and Brandon was satisfied with Corey’s creative vision.
Hannah Aitchison returned to the shop and Kat was very excited to see her. Kim Saigh said, “I don’t know what I would have done if Hannah hadn’t come back. I was starting to feel my vocabulary diminish. Except for diminish.” (Kim’s attempt at a joke) Hannah was interviewed and she said, “One of the best pieces of advice I ever got was responsibility. When someone wants you to put something on their body that they will die with, it’s a tremendous mark of trust. It’s a gift. We need to approach that with the right type of respect.”
A redhead named Shelly met with Hannah. She showed her pictures of Southern Magnolias. She said she wanted two magnolias on her back to be a tribute to her grandparents and to be a reminder of how they always showed her unconditional love. She said that her Grandparents had a magnolia tree in their yard and she always loved the smell.
Brandon, the full-of-himself beautician, returned and this time he was with his mother. When his mom saw the stencil of the giant B that Brandon was getting inked onto his neck, his mom wasn’t happy. Corey said, “Mothers don’t want their kids to get tattoos because that was their ultimate creation and they don’t want you messing with them.” Brandon went through with it, despite his mom’s concerns and his mom had to leave the shop half way through the process. She never returned.
Shelly returned to get her magnolia tattoo. Hannah inked two large, colorful magnolias on Shelly’s shoulder blade. Shelly said that her Grandparents have been together for 60 years and are the only two people she’s ever known to have a truly happy relationship.
Kim is excited when an old friend and famous artist, Derek Hess, walks in to get a tattoo. Derek brought a picture of a WWII tank and said that his father had drawn it and he wanted to get two replicas on his back. Derek shared his story about getting addicted to drugs and alcohol and raved about his dad’s unconditional support.
As Derek was getting his tattoo, a guy named Justin came in to meet with Hannah. Justin brought in a piece of art that Derek Hess had drawn and requested that Hannah permanently ink it onto his stomach. Justin was blown away when he saw that Derek was getting his own tattoo and rushed right over to say hello.
Pixie returned from her trip. Kat said to the camera, “I don’t want to hold grudges or have bad feelings about Pixie. I wish she’d fess up and talk to me about it. She hasn’t even told me she went to Mexico cause she knows she did something wrong.”
A girl named Sarah met with Corey. She had a picture from her Grandparent’s honeymoon. It was her Grandma, sitting on the grass, pointing a gun.” She said she wanted that picture tattooed on her arm in honor of her Grandma. She said it symbolized her Grandma’s sense of humor.
A man met with Kat and requested to have a picture of his Grandma put on his forearm.
Kat gave Pixie time off to do a make-up gig. Pixie went to the shoot and had a great time.
Justin was sitting for his tattoo when Hannah had a great idea to have Derek Hess sign the tattoo so the world would know that Derek did the original. Justin was thrilled and he was a real trouper when getting jabbed with needles over his ribs. Hannah said that the ribs are the most painful place to get a tattoo. Justin said that Derek’s art, of a man with his arms out and head back, would always remind him of his strength and be therapeutic in getting him over his recent breakup with his fiancé. Justin’s tattoo took 4 hours.
Pixie went to the fashion shoot and did her make-up magic to one of the models. The make-up created a haunting effect, which looked stunning. They were all pleased and had a wonderful day.
Sarah got the picture of her gun slinging grandma over her entire upper arm. It was incredible. Looked exactly like the photo. Corey created a masterpiece, once again. Corey said, “What if she was really a bank robber?” and they laughed. Corey said, “Memorial pieces are so nice to get when they’re still around.” Sarah felt very empowered and couldn’t wait to show her Grandma.
Kat’s client got his Grandma’s portrait on his forearm. It wasn’t as detailed as the one Corey did, but it was pretty. Kat’s client was accompanied by his cousin Jennifer, who explained how their Grandma died of Lymphoma. Tears were shed, but in the end they were happy to see the beautiful tattoo that will bring back great memories.
Kat had a pow-wow with Pixie and explained her disappointment in how Pixie handled the whole Mexico trip. Pixie said that Kat left Corey in charge so she told Corey she was going to Mexico. Pixie said she didn't want to bother Kat on her trip so that's why she didn't tell her. Kat said, “if you weren’t my friend I would totally fire you!” Pixie looked stunned.
Pixie said she couldn’t imagine not working there or being friends anymore. She said, “That thought makes me want to vomit.” Kat said she expected Pixie to put in 110% effort and said she was giving her a warning. Pixie apologized and the conversation was over.
