Kat's Back, but Where is Hannah?Thursday, May 08 2008 |
On LA Ink, Episode 1,Season 2, Kat returned to her LA shop and the artists were glad she was back. Everyone wondered if or when Hannah would return from Chicago. Corey and Kim had some colorful clients and inked some stunning tattoos.

Corey Miller was interviewed and he mentioned that when he was a kid tattooing was seedy and lowbrow, but he and his friends embraced it. He admitted that sometimes it got dangerous.
An interesting, pink haired chick named Joanna visited the tattoo parlor. She openly announced that she was an adult porn star. She requested that Corey do a tattoo of the female symbol with a sad woman’s face inside. She wanted it to resemble her strengths and weaknesses as a woman. Pixie pointed out that the porn star was totally wearing booty shorts and boy was she. Corey said he didn’t notice. (Sure he didn’t.)

Kat Von D returned to LA and mentioned that she liked the life of a gypsy, going here and there. She said it was similar to being in the tattoo world. She mentioned that she enjoyed getting tattoos that represented her travels and that much of her body art represents a landmark in time.
Kat showed up at the shop for the first time after touring with her boyfriend Orbie. Everyone was glad to see her. She surprised the group by announcing that she had some good news. Kat said, “I’m pregnant!” Corey, Pixie and Kim Saigh all started saying “Na, that’s not true” and everyone was laughing. Finally Kat admitted it was just a joke. Corey said it would be cute to have a little Kat running around, but that she is too young to think about kids right now. Kat suggested getting drinks after work and they all agreed they’d like to catch up.

Joanna, the porn star, decided to entertain the tattoo artists by slithering around the stripper pole in the LA Ink shop waiting room. She hung upside down and swung round and round. Corey blessed Kat for adding the pole in a perfect spot where all can see.
Corey put the stencil of Joanna’s tattoo on the right side of her waist. As Corey inked the design, Joanna flirted ruthlessly and got so worked up that she even faked an orgasm. Corey wasn’t impressed. He just wanted to finish up and get her out of there. Joanna loved her tattoo and said that when she looks at it she’ll think of the biggest orgasm she ever faked in her life. As Joanna walked out the door, Corey said, “I’m in trouble” (Might he have been referring to when his wife sees the show.)

The LA Ink gang went out for drinks after work. Kat talked about her experience meeting Orbie’s mom. She said that she covered up her tattoos when she first met her cause she didn’t want her to judge her for them. She said she thinks that his mom liked her. The group wasn’t surprised. Corey mentioned that it was hard having Kat and their co-worker Hannah Aithison gone, but that they managed to make it work. The friends toasted to Kat’s return.
A spunky dude dressed in red, also sporting a small, red tuft of hair, met with Kat. He said he wanted a tattoo that would answer a question that he always has to answer. He showed Kat white patches on his skin and told her that he has a skin condition called Vitiligo. He mentioned that people constantly ask him about it, and want to know what it’s called and how it’s spelled. He decided to get the answer written on his skin…”It’s Called Vitiligo”
Meanwhile, Kim was working with a first-time customer who requested a giant tattoo of flowers to be inked over his entire arm. Each flower was to represent one of the many women he’s had in his life that have helped him get where he is today. The tattoo artists were impressed that a first-time client would start off with such a huge tattoo.
Mark, the customer with Vitiligo, said he wanted to get his tattoo because it would be like owning his disease and celebrating it. He started showing signs of the white spots at age 4 and said it comes and goes. He was excited about getting an educational tattoo to teach people about his condition. Kat was all into his getting a tattoo that answered a question. She said, “You show it and it’s like, I’m way too lazy to talk right now.” And people can just read it. Mark loved his tattoo and said it was very empowering.

The group wondered when Hannah was going to return from her trip to Chicago. Kim called Hannah. She was disappointed and worried to hear that Hannah was reconnecting with her old Chicago buddies and wondering if Chicago might be the place for her. Hannah said, “Maybe this is where I need to be. I may need some more time.”
Kim went back to work. Kim’s customer named Chris returned to get his full-arm floral tattoo. He could only handle the pain so long and needed to take a break for the day. The outlining was causing him more pain than he could stand. Corey asked him if he was going to get Dragons on the other arm to honor all of the men in his life. They laughed.
The show concluded with some laughs from the LA Ink artists.
