Back in December 2007, news swept the Internet about Katherine von Drachenberg, otherwise known as Kat Von D from LA Ink, achieving the world record for giving the most tattoos in a 24 hour period. 400 to be exact. It was reported that there were over 1,000 tattoo lovers, waiting outside the High Voltage Tattoo Parlor in that 24 hour period. The tattoos were all very small so she could get them done within a 3 minute time limit and patron’s got a discount, only paying $20 per tattoo. All customers got the same “LA” logo tattoo, based on Guinness Book of World Record Standards.
On April 1, 2008 Robbie “Coon” Koch, owner of Coon Tattoos in West Point, decided to take a stab at breaking the world record for most tattoos given in a 24 hour period. Kat Von D heard about his goal and sent him an email to wish him luck. Thousands came out for the event. Well, Kat’s good wishes came true and Robbie “Coon” Koch is now the world record holder and exceeded Kat’s record by 177 tattoos, totaling 577 in a 24 hour period. This event helped to raise over $15,000 for the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Robbie has decided to make this an annual event and bring other tattoo artists into the mix to work together to raise more money and beat more records.
