"I Can Rock Anyway You Roll"Monday, July 28 2008 |
Gene Simmons, entrepreneur, is the focus of this week's Gene Simmons Family Jewels. Gene takes on Las Vegas, book publishing, and seeks a spokesperson for his clothing line. Sophie sells the right stuff on the runway during LA Fashion Week.

Watch closely, folks, Gene Simmons is going to school us on the fine art of successful creativity. Audiences were treated to three hours of encore episodes that featured Gene Simmons, entrepreneur; Shannon Tweed, handyperson; Nick Simmons, ladies man; Sophie Simmons; Fashionista; and the Snake Medicine band. This was followed by a premier episode that highlighted the right way, and the worst way to snowboard.
The evening began with Shannon, and sister Tracy meeting with Jeff Ross to plan a celebrity roast featuring Gene. The roast was to benefit a favorite charity of Gene's, the Wounded Warriors Foundation. This was followed by a humorous episode in which Gene babysits his five year old twin nephews mere hours after spending a sleepless night aboard the USS Nimitz. The best line of the evening occurred when an exhausted Gene mumbles: "I know a good game...try to read each other's minds." Later that night, Gene helps the pair form the rock group, Snake Medicine and promptly blows all the lights out in the mansion during a power surge.
Yet, the real theme of the night was when Gene opened episode three with the line: "I can rock anyway you roll." To steal a line from another well known rocker, Gene would be "proving it all night."

Shannon's handyperson skills run awry causing a world of trouble for the Simmon's clan. Her tinkering under the carriage of Gene's car caused him to become stranded in the middle of the desert while on the way to Las Vegas. However, it was her attempt at plumbing that caused the most damage as a flood destroyed thousands of dollars worth of KISS memorabila.
After being passed up numerous times on the highway, a trucker, who is married to a huge KISS fan, picked up Gene and took him to her home for a photo op before depositing the rocker at a roadside cafe. Gene calls a Vegas pal to pick him up. It turns out to be comedian Carrot Top who goes the wrong direction, causing Gene to be late for a gig. Ever the professional, the Hard Rock Cafe audience had no idea that the man leading the big band Royal Crown Revue had been stranded in the desert hours earlier. They, and we were treated to a great performance. Gene is quite the showman, but bowed out when told he would be expected to perform eight shows per week, fifty weeks a year. Way too much time for anyone who values having a life.
In the meantime, Shannon, Tracy and Sophie scour the countryside for KISS memorabilia to replace what was damaged. It may have worked without Gene ever knowing about the flood if only one of them had remembered to wipe up the water from Gene's chair.
Other repeat episodes showed Nick attempting to please his girlfriend, Cody, and an unexpected guest, the lovely and very British, Victoria. Nick's squeamishness at an amusement park caused the ladies to leave Nick in the wind, and enjoy the park on their own. Sophie gets an internship at a small fashion house, but unknown to her, Gene bankrolls the deal, and she ends up walking the catwalk during LA Fashion Week. What a Dad! I NEED to be adopted by Gene.

Gene gets arrested, or as he tells it: "Shannon, I was detained-not arrested," while interviewing ladies of the evening for his upcoming book; Ladies of the Night.
In an all new episode, a shopping trip with Sophie brings out Gene's entrenuerial bug, yet again. He decides that a snowboarder would be the perfect spokesperson to front his Moneybags fashion line. Chosen spokesperson, Jonathan Cole, proves that partying and work do not mix. After a night of drinking, which he claimed made the ride better,he failed to show up. Co-spokesperson, Ryan Bauch breaks his leg and will be laid up for the next nine months. Gene is introduced to a young man named Mark the Raider from Whistler, B.C., Canada, who once waited on Gene's table at the same resort. It is agreed that he is the perfect candidate, but will his Dad buy into Gene's plans? "Only if there is an equal balance between school and work," he says. Gene agrees, and an endorsement deal is hatched. Somehow, I know that if I keep watching this show I will become an entrepreneur, too. This is soooo much better than the KISS Army.
