Let it Snow

Thursday, August 07 2008
Dog is back in Colorado to hunt down Christopher, a 20-year-old accussed of domestic abuse and assault. A lack of leads and a freak April blizzard mean a tough hunt for Dog and his pack.

Dog's house in Colorado Springs

It's snowing in COlorado Springs and the crew, grown accustom to Hawaii heat, is shivering. Duane Lee complains "it was 75 yesterday and today its 20!" Dog, sitting by the fireplace, laughs, "in Hawaii that would be the end of the world."

"Some of these guys would be glad to go to jail today to get warm," he adds.

Beth looks down at her well manicured toes in her open toed shoes. I don't wear nylons, so I think my toes might get cold."

Bobby Brown arrives with information on their next hunt, Christopher Dickey. Christopher is 21 and has been charged with assault with serious bodily injury. Christopher failed to appear for a jury trial; he too the case all the way to trial then skipped. The judge has ordered "no bond" for his case. His Colorado record alone shows three domestic assaults and two assaults; he is a violent character.

Dog by the fire

The Da Kine crew are motivated to catch this guy, "by taking him off the street some young lady won't get her eye socket smashed tomorrow." But they are a bit nervous about hunting in the snow. "Talk about adding a degree of difficulty, a bunch of Hawaiians slipping around in the winter snow" (An odd comment since everyone of them was raised in Colorado--except Lyssa, who was raised in Alaska). They stop to pray, asking for help in the bad weather so that they can "find em and fix em."

Bobby loves the snow, "I love the snow. It's great for bounty hunting. Everybody's indoors where they're supposed to be; where we can find them." Visibility is low though; it's hard to even drive. They have several addresses to check, and when they find his apartment complex and Dog, Duane Lee, Leland and Bobby spread out to look for his apartment. Because their fugitive is known to be violent, Beth and Baby Lyssa hang back at a safe distance.

They find Christopher's apartment only to find he'd moved out a few months before. They head out into the snow to check a second address, but it's the same story. He hasn't lived there for months.

Dog discusses childcare

The last address is his mother's house and they surround it and knock. He isn't there, but his mom and family allow Dog to search the house to see for himself. The family is very helpful and friendly, but avoid answering any questions that might help Dog find Christopher. They don't know where he is, or who his current girlfriend is, or anyone that might know where he can be found. They don't even have the key to the padlock on his room.

Dog does make friends wherever he goes. He soon has Christopher's sister and her husband, both 18, joking with him and showing him their new baby. Dog gives them advice about how to care for their child, including a burping strategy that looks much like a strangle hold. It seems to work though and the new parents are charmed, but still don't give up any information on their brother's whereabouts.

Duane Lee waits in the snow

They are at a loss now on where to look for their man. But as they drive away, and call comes through that tells them exactly where Christopher is. They approach the house with caution, surrounding it in the now heavy snow, and when the door is opened for them they push inside saying they have a warrant for Christopher's arrest.

There are lots of kids in the house and there is a lot of shouting from Beth and Dog for them to "keep this cool" so the kids don't get hurt. Christopher gives up without a fight and is led off to the car in cuffs.

He doesn't have a good excuse for skipping his trial (He had to go to work) and Bobby and Duane Lee reprimand him for being that stupid. Now he faces prison with no hope of bail.

It was a rough hunt in nasty weather, but Dog is just happy they brought the guy in, "Neither rain nor sleet nor dark of night, we will always win the fight!"
