Mike prepares to take on HP
Mike and his cameramen Dave and Doug are part of a new Hewlett Packard (HP) campaign, called,"Mike Rowe Gets Down and Dirty with the TX2000z."
This came as a surprise to many fans because in the first season of Dirty Jobs Mike was seen with a Mac, but he explains that they had a falling out.
"Some of you might recall I couldn't get on the site for about a month. Part of the prolem was my computer, the larger part was the user. No matter. I made a change and then I made the deal," he explains in the Q&A section of his Web site.
Mike, his cameramen and a few improv actors put together 5 short, funny vignettes for the HP Pavilion tx2000z notebook, the videos may be airing on Discovery Channel soon.
"Mike Rowe has used virtually every tool known to man, but has mastered only one; The HP Pavilion tx2000z tablet PC notebook," the site claims. ". . . see how the versatile HP Pavilion tx2000z handles the ultimate dirty job - life on the road with Mike Rowe."
Mike says the shows were completely unscripted, but he thinks quite brilliant.
"I can't say were it will lead, but shooting was a complete blast," Mike says.
Kimberly Miller, VP of Marketing for HP, said in an inteview that Mike was chosen to be the brand’s spokesperson because the “hard working nature of what he does matches the hard-working nature of the product we offer."

I think this might be the first time a set of ads has actually influenced one of my purchasing decisions. I have a Sony Viao I'm real happy with. I've had it 8 years and its survived all sorts or drama, including being dropped off a moving motorcycle! (no, I was not web surfing while I bike).
The new HP sounds even tougher though ... something I"ll need as I continue to drag my laptop around on bike trips, lol. And its more affordable (the crucial point) ! I think I'll get me one.

If it can stand up to Mike, I think you've got a chance.
