Biography
Sig Hansen's ancestry is Norwegian and he grew up in Seattle, Washington. He began fishing at age 12 in 1978. After he graduated from high school, he began fishing year-round, every year in Alaska and the Bering Sea. At age 22, Hansen began relieving captains on the F/V Northwestern. By 24, he began running the ship full time. The Northwestern over time has been a top crab producer, with an excellent safety record.
Presently, Hansen fishes with his two brothers, Edgar and Norman. The three brothers were the inspiration for the new Xbox 360® video game called DEADLIEST CATCH ALASKAN STORM. This video game is an intense crab fishing adventure that puts players at the helm of a fishing vessel to search for crab while battling the elements of a brutal storm.
As a fourth generation fisherman, Captain Hansen stars in the Discovery Channel's hit reality show, THE DEADLIEST CATCH.

-During one trip, Hansen stitched his brother Edgar's head, after a huge piece of ice hit him there. He used of dental floss to do it.
