Mom takes on a Rodeo Pro - Seas 1 Eps 103

A mother of twins and a shark fisherman battle against the Gladiators.

Monica Carlson AKA Jet & Laila Ali

This week, another round of rough competition will take place as a soccer mom attempts to defeat a rodeo queen. Episode 103 features Monica Carlson (also known as Jet on Season 2 of American Gladiators) battling it out with rodeo pro Belinda Gavin. Carlson is a 32-year-old mother of twins and a former Portland Trailblazer dancer, while Gavin is a 36-year-old bull rider originally from Australia.

On the men's side, Adam Levin, who lost his home in Hurricane Wilma, goes up against high school teacher Sharaud Moore. Levin is a 29-year-old shark fisherman who moved to Bedford, Texas in attempt to start a new life. Moore, on the other hand, is a 30-year-old teacher who specializes in Algebra and is one of the original “Freedom Writers.”

In the first event for the men, contestants Sharaud Moore and Adam "The Hebrew Hammer" Levin face Mayhem, Titan and the tattooed warrior Toa in Powerball. Sharaud in blue scores first blood. Adam scores, but then takes a hard hit from Mayhem and, after attempting to walk, collapses in pain. The round ended with 2 points each, and the medical staff tending to a still injured Adam Levin.

The ladies are up next in Powerball. Contestants Belinda Gavin and Monica Carlson face down Stealth, Venom, and Crush. A team effort by the Gladiators keeps the scoring low, and the two contestants finish the round close, Monica with 6 and Belinda with 4.

Adam, taken out of the competition by the hit from Mayhem, is replaced by youth minister Andy Konigsmark, the "Reverend of Rip", who inherits Adam's 2 points. While Andy starts strong in Joust, getting a number of hard hitting blows on Titan, Titan takes him off guard and sent him into the water with no points. Sharaud shows superior balance, taking the hits from Titan without buckling, and taking Titan by surprise with a hit that leaves him a bit wobbly. He almost recovers but finally falls forward, taking Sharaud with him but handing Sharaud ten points.

Monica aka Jet vs. Venom in Joust

In Joust, Belinda started out strong against Venom, but disqualifies herself by lunging forward, stepping on to Venom's platform and pushing her off into the water (which apparently gives her a lot of satisfaction regardless). Monica fared much better, holding her own, and delivering hit after to hit to Venom who gets knocked off by the onslaught and falls into the water, handing Monica ten points. Monica is now up to 16 points and Belinda is trailing with a mere 4 points.

Sharaud and Andy then have to face down Titan, Toa, Mayhem and Wolf in Hit ‘n’ Run. Sharaud makes a good run, racking up an additional 8 points. Andy manages to avoid near miss after near miss to catch up to Sharaud's 8 points, still leaving him with a ten-point deficit.

Hellga has Monica in her sights with Assault, taking out Monica after just one point scored. Belinda, with a 12 point deficit, needs to do well. After sending off a failed shot from the slingshot, she makes it across to the turret and sends off a dead-on shot to the target, blowing Hellga off the platform and into the water behind for a perfect 10 points.

Belinda & Crush in Powerball

Andy takes on Justice at Assault. Managing to pull off a couple of unsuccessful shots from the sling shot and from the turret for a couple of points, Andy makes it to the sandbox where he finds the arrow for the crossbow. But on his way there, Justice nails him, leaving him with just two additional points. Sharaud doesn't even make it that far; making one point on the slingshot, but then gets hit, exposing himself on the turret. Sharaud now has a 9 point lead over Andy going into the Eliminator challenge.

Monica has to face Stealth on the Pyramid, while Belinda must take on Fury. Belinda has a problem getting anywhere versus Fury. Monica on the other hand burns by Stealth right away. Stealth manages to pull her back just in time to keep her from the top, but Monica shakes her again and breaks for the top, becoming the first contestant of the season to actually make it all the way for 10 points. She breaks ahead of Belinda by 13 points.

Because of his lead, Sharaud got a four-second lead on the Eliminator, but lost it quickly as he gets delayed swimming underneath the fiery surface. Andy wasted no time, scrambling up the cargo net and leaving Sharaud behind. Stumbling only once on the Travelator, Andy pulled himself up and broke through the wall for the fastest time thus far 2:04, and a place among the final eight.

Monica made the most of her 6.5 second lead, never looking back as a struggling Belinda failed to come close to catching up to her once. Despite a fall from the hand bike, Monica pulls in an otherwise flawless performance, outdoing Andy from the men's round for the now fastest time on the Eliminator with 2:00 flat, and guaranteeing a spot for herself in the final 8 as well.
