Episode 102 Season 1 - The Carnage Continues

As the Gladiators lurk and prowl with menace, a female Karate Instructor and a Gymnastics Instructor/Life Coach square off. In the men's competition, a Boeing Engineer takes on a Radiation-Control Technician.

The Wall - Adonis & Toa

In Episode #102, Season 1, the two male combatants were Jeff "Big Country" Chapman, a 26-year-old radiation control technician from Harriman, Tennessee, and Adonis Lockett, a 23-year-old Boeing satellite engineer from Gardena, California. The female contestants featured were Christie Philips, a 39-year-old karate instructor and mother of two from San Marcos, California. She is the current Female World Grappling Champion. Her opponent was Siene Silva, a 34-year-old gymnastics instructor and life coach from Fairfax, Virginia.

The first event of the night is for the guys. Jeff and Adonis face Titan, Mayhem, Toa and Justice on the Gauntlet. Jeff faced stiff resistance from all four Gladiators but managed to battle through, just missing his chance to break through the final wall by a split second, getting a score of 8. Adonis powers past the first three Gladiators but then gets forced back by a determined Justice after already entering the final scoring zone, forcing a decision by the judges. It appeared at first neither man would pick up the full 10 points by going through the wall, but after the referee reviewed the tape, it showed that Justice had barred Adonis after he got into the gray zone and he was awarded 10 points.

Our lady contestants had to face down Venom, Stealth, Siren and Hellga in their Gauntlet event! Christie made it past Venom and Stealth, but Siren beat her back, eating time off the clock, and Hellga finished off the job. Christie earned 6 points for this event. Siene breezes past the first three Gladiators before getting held back by Hellga, who pummels Siene who lost her helmet during the process of trying to get past. But Siene gets by in time to break through the final wall for a perfect 10 points.

Crush in Joust

Next up was the Wall for the men. Jeff faced Mayhem, while Adonis had to try and escape the clutches of Toa. Adonis struggled up the wall, getting stalled long enough to be caught by Toa, who locks on to Adonis and tosses him into the water below. Jeff powered up the wall, leaving a safe distance between himself and Mayhem, earning a perfect 10.

The second event for the women was the Joust. Christie and Siene attempt to take on Crush. Christie struggled from the start, only managing to last 15 seconds before Crush pushed her into the water. Siene, despite a "crushing" onslaught, managed to hold out for 27 seconds before finally dropping into the water. No points for either contender.

Jeff and Adonis had to battle Militia in the Earthquake challenge next. Jeff managed to take Militia down, and then took him off the platform to earn a full ten points. Adonis seemed to have a tougher time of it. After giving Militia an accidental wedgie, and trying to put him in a headlock, he powered Militia off the platform. But as they both went over the edge, Militia managed to grab a supporting rope and swung back up on the platform, depriving Adonis of any points. Jeff is now up a comfortable 18 points over Adonis - Jeff: 28, Adonis: 10.

Christie and Siene then took on Venom on Hang Tough. Christie did a great job of swinging across to the other platform but gets blocked by Venom, who swung onto her and won't let go. Christie did a good job wrestling with Venom in the air but ultimately is overcome at the last second and drops into the water. Siene, an experienced gymnast, seemed to fare much better, and swung her away across the rings with ease, managing to avoid Venom's attempts to block her from the platform. Siene now holds a comfortable lead at 20, while Christie only has 6 points.

Earthquake - Jeff & Militia

The men then faced Wolf in Hang Tough. For some reason, to me, Wolf seems to be the crazy Gladiator, but then maybe the script calls for it that way. Adonis swung across and, after an early hit by Wolf, managed to swing around him just as Wolf goes to grab him and drops onto the platform for a full 10 points. Jeff, after twice avoiding Wolf's grasp, made it to the platform just to have Wolf leglock him from behind and pull him down into the water, keeping him from scoring any points.

Now it's onto the Eliminator Challenge for the men! Adonis faces down Jeff head to head on the Eliminator. Jeff, due to his 8-point advantage, got a 4-second start time lead. Jeff really made use of his lead for the entire event, and while Adonis occasionally closed the gap, ends up at the final course, the Travelator, with seconds to spare. Suddenly however his strength seems to have given up and Adonis catches up with him. Both of them struggle on the Travelator, falling back repeatedly, before Adonis makes one final run and manages a stunning upset to put himself in the Final 8.

In the Women's Eliminator Challenge, Siene got a well deserved 7 1/2 second head start over Christie. She never let go of that lead throughout the entire event. She made it through the obstacle course with only one fall off of the handbike while Christie seemed to struggle over and over on each obstacle. At the end of the course, Siene handled the Travelator with ease, ending with a 2:22 time and a trip to the Final 8. Well done to both the guys and ladies this episode!
