Twin Sisters Compete While Audience Gets Big Surprise...

Four adults, two of them twin sisters get ready for an old fashioned butt whupping on American Gladiators. However with this episode, we find out that "slow and steady" doesn't always win the race...

Freddie Mercury's song set
the pace for the evening....

Freddie Mercury may be dead and gone, but his tenor voice resonated loud and strong in the beginning of the show. The audience knew the words to the song by heart and it echoed clear as a type of foretelling of things to come: “We will, we will, rock you....”

The announcer explained the situation to the audience: “Lady Gladiators take on twins! Will they feel the pain of separation? One sister will win. One sister will lose... can their relationship survive that?”

The reference was being made about contenders who are sisters! Colnessa clothed in blue while her sibling Lillian was the lady in red.
Hulk Hogan, himself a dad was curious about the sisters. “Is this the best thing for your relationship to be in a competition like this?” Lillian affirms that it indeed is. “I’m the one who played with dolls she's the one who would run trucks over boy's heads”, she explained. “I'm the one who would swim on top of the water and she's the one who would dive in the water deep”.

Phoenix laid the smackdown...

Colnessa was the first up with the HIT AND RUN. The object of the game is for a person to run across a suspended bridge over water. Of course that is not the entirety of the sport because all the while, opposing Gladiators are swinging giant hanging balls to impede progress or preferably knock the contender into the pool. Colnessa got heart and did well with a good start. She dodges the attacks from the Gladiators but encounters some trouble on the third trip across the bridge and barely missed a ball as it zinged past her head. She began to tire at 10 points which is about five runs across the bridge nonstop. Perhaps as a type of mercy killing, Phoenix finally gets her and Colnessa falls into the water. She earned 12 points.

Colnessa recapped her experience afterwards. “It was a little easier than I had thought”, she quipped within the earshot of a visibly annoyed Phoenix. “I know that it is not so hardcore. I know what to bring next time.” Phoenix, with her hair resembling flame said to the contender, “I will see you on the pyramid.”

It was Lillian’s turn next. She was off to a good start and appeared to be even faster than her sister was. Even though she maneuvered herself well on the bridge, she lost her balance after the fourth trip over the bridge and had already collected 8 points. She was able to earn four more making her total 12 points. Yet, when she tried for 14, Phoenix got her as well and down into the water Lillian fell.

With the ladies competition over with, the men contestants had a change to be introduced to the crowd: Mike who wore blue and Adam who wore red. Adam is an emergency room doctor while Mike is a dancer and even broke out an old-school dance move to wow the audience and to “show how lanky and lean I am!” he said. He also said that he was saving himself for the Eliminator.

Toa brings the ruckus...

The match-up was Adam versus Toa and Titan versus Mike. The men are on the pyramid and Titan began to taunt Mike. “Let’s see some of those dance moves!” he jeered. Mike started with a lot of energy yet Titan caught him within his grasp and the poor contender was going nowhere fast. However things didn’t fare so easily for Adam. He rushed into Toa who effortlessly slams the poor doctor down all the way down the pyramid. It was over before it even started.

Mike’s fancy dance agility did aid him a little. While Titan was manhandling him, it looked like for a moment that Mike was going to escape Titan’s iron grip. But poor Mike stumbled and Titan threw him down the pyramid as well.

There is a new competition that the ladies participate in called the ROCKETBALL. It is basically basketball but with rockets. The contestants and the gladiators were connected to bungee cords that propel them into the air so they can shoot the balls into the baskets. It sounds a little tricky but Colnessa wins that competition and now had earned 16 points.

TILT was the next game. It was an ol’ fashioned tug of war above a pool of water. That time, it was Mike up against new gladiator, Hurricane. Hurricane made it clear what his intentions were from the start. “I will beat you in 2 seconds!” he said and almost made good on his promise. He tossed Mike into the water within 4 seconds. Mike was happy that he survived an additional two seconds.

For a morale boost, Adam’s co-worker Justin from the emergency room of the hospital he worked at was on the big screen in the area to give the good doctor some encouragement. “We will keep the ER warm for the gladiators you beat”, Justin said cheerfully. If Adam won, he planned to donate the prize money to a charity of his choice.

Jet made it it hard for Lillian...

Maybe Justin’s encouragement gave Adam some fire because despite the opposing strength from Hurricane, the doctor held on for the entire time on the tilt tug of war. The audience loved it and chanted his name. Even Laila Ali did a double take. “You are a lot stronger than we thought”, she said in the post game interview. “Probably stronger than you thought you were. We are impressed!”

THE WALL was up next for the ladies. It was Colnessa versus Siren and Jet versus Lillian. The object of the game was for the contestants to climb the wall with the gladiators chasing after them attached to bungee cords. The first contestant to the top wins. First up was Lillian and Jet. Lillian climbs up with Jet scampering after her. She caught Lillian but not only lost her but fell down the wall! Colnessa achieved a larger lead on her sister and surprisingly out climbs Siren. Colnessa won that round hands down but Lillian received 5 points for staying on the wall.

For the men, it was all about the EARTHQUAKE. The earthquake platform is a clear one suspended over the gladiator pool. It tips in direction of where the weight shifts. Think of it like some weird see-saw game.

Mike competed against Wolf for this sport. After some lightweight hand smacking, Wolf tired of playing with Mike and knocked him into the water. Wolf was not impressed. “You kidding me? That all you got?”
The announcer declared, “Playing patty-cake is not an approved sport!”
Adam rushed Wolf with gusto and tackles him but tumbles off the platform himself.

SNAP BACK was introduced as a new event. The contestants run as far as they can in the zone. If they hit the button the gladiators will be yanked off of their stage with bungee cords and the contender wins. Colnessa went up against Helga and Crush was paired against Lillian.
Colnessa got off to a good start but Helga’s strength was too underestimated and she continued allowing Colnessa to only be able to muster earning low points.
Lilian was doing much better against Crush. She garnered points and defeated her sister. The score was Colnessa 30 to Lillian’s 28.

Justice couldn't deter Adam

For the men’s division of the sport Mike was paired with Titan and Adam was against Justice. Mike struggled against Titan’s grip (didn’t this happen before?) Titan pulled him back and didn’t allow him to get over the 4 to 6 point area. Justice on the other hand had a more challenging time with Adam. The doctor gets yanked all the way back to the start line. But Adam had the speed and energy to geet back to the point lines and actually made it to the 8 point line. That time, he fought to hold his ground instead of working to hit the button. Adam had 8 points while Mike had 4.

The approached the competition to end all competitions- THE ELIMINATOR. As the name implies, it is a large obstacle course with rope swings, teeter totters, inclined treadmills, hanging handbikes and a swimming pool with fire on top of it... for good measure. Colnessa got a .01 second lead on her sister Lillian while Adam got a 3.5 lead on Mike. Not only were the families of the contestants in audience cheering their loved ones on, the winner receives a new Toyota Sequoia and $100,000.

The ladies show that they don’t play. Colnessa has a little bit of trouble with the rope swings while Lillian was on the tight rope. Lillian and Colnessa fell off the hand bikes and it erased the lead that Colnessa had. The sisters climb up the pyramid and it looked for a moment that they were neck to neck. However, Colnessa stumbled on the teeter totter which gave Lillian the extra time she needed.
It wasn’t in vain because Lillian won and emerged from the Eliminator victorious.
Lillan placed high for the semifinals with a time of 3 minutes and 4 seconds. She is in third place for this season.

The men get down and dirty for THE ELIMINATOR. The good doctor has been basically wiping the floor with Mike but this round would put everything to rest. It is like the tortoise and the hare: Adam persistently maintaining his lead and dominates the whole race. Mike was slipping a bit on the rope swing. Adam is plodding along successfully in the obstacle course but one had to wonder if Mike could possibly have been setting things up for his favor in the end. That theory was justified when after lining up his momentum on the teeter totter, Mike barrelled down the Travelator with hare like speed. The “slow and steady” motto did NOT help Adam. Mike sped past the bewildered doctor and won the race. The crowd couldn’t believe it and cheers in excitement. What an upset!

Mike’s Eliminator time was the best out of the whole season so far at 1 minute and 55 seconds. He leads the semi-final board. He danced around and basked in his victory. “I told you I was planning for the Eliminator!” he cheered.
